Katie believes that therapy is a collaborative process during which clients may gain support, develop self-awareness, and build skills and compassion to live a more balanced and fulfilling life. She provides a warm and safe environment where clients can explore how past experiences and current stressors impact thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationships. Ultimately, the development of healthy boundaries, communication, and coping lead to connection, healing, and growth. Katie’s approach to therapy integrates several treatment modalities to allow for a more holistic perspective on client’s presenting concerns and path to wellness. She believes that every person arrives in therapy with their own set of strengths which she will help clients build upon. In addition to being collaborative and non-judgmental, Katie’s approach is warm yet direct and open. Her approach helps clients set goals, build skills, and find relief.

Katie’s approach is rooted in evidence-based practices (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy,Attachment-focused EMDR, Gottman Method for Couples Therapy; Relational Neuroscience/Interpersonal Neurobiology(IPNB); Emotion Focused Therapy) and is artfully integrated with family systems, interpersonal, solution-focused, and existential perspectives. Katie believes that evidence-based approaches are an essential foundation to any therapeutic process because they have been rigorously studied for efficacy; they provide a goal-oriented healing process; and they provide clients with concrete skills for hope and recovery.

One of Katie’s personal values is to continue to grow both in her personal and professional life. One of the ways she is currently facilitating her own growth is by studying relational neuroscience and the neurobiology of attachment through an immersive training program geared toward helping parents of struggling children/teens. Her current couples and family work is based in family systems and Emotion Focused Therapy, and the Gottman Method. Katie focuses her continued education on couples, parenting, families, teenagers, and eating disorder recovery. She is holistic and progressive in her treatment approach and will continue to push forward as the field of psychology, counseling, and coaching grows and incorporates research-based evidence for how healing and growth can best be supported!
