parenting + family therapy
Our family and parenting relationships are truly the most important in our growth and development. They provide the foundation for our emotion regulation, lay the framework for our sense of self, and map how we relate to others.
Self-regulation is the ability to focus thoughts, control behaviors, and manage emotions. If you want your child to develop self-regulation, you must develop your own. As adults and parents, we are the source of co-regulation for our children. Co-regulation is the process by which children learn to increase self-regulation as their brains and nervous system develop. Parenting is hard and there isn’t always support for families of children with challenging behaviors, brain-based differences, developmental differences, and trauma. Solstice is here to help.
Part of the collaborative wellness mission of Solstice is prevention. Our goal focuses on helping parents heal, from the inside out, so that they can be the parents they want to be which serves as prevention for the next generation. Furthermore, parents are supported in identifying and developing skills to navigate challenging experiences with their children and teens through various modalities.
-
Parent Coaching and Psychotherapy: Helping you be the parent you want to be with more effective communication, stronger life-long relationships with your child(ren) or teen, and parenting in a way that aligns with your values.

Parent-Child/Parent-Teen Therapy: This is a treatment modality that supports the relationship between parent and child. Parents are supported in communication, repair, boundary setting, and building awareness of the relationship dynamics. You and your child (or teen) attend sessions together.

Family Therapy: Focuses on improvement of relationships between family members. Family therapy can be helpful in the process of repair after a rupture or significant event, challenges with transitions or even sibling rivalry. EMDR is a structured therapy modality that can help a client reduce the distress from unresolved experiences or trauma, while simultaneously working to reduce the beliefs that maintain levels of the distress client’s life. When trauma or past experiences are activated, it can feel like they are happening now. This activation and associated belief pattern can be healed through the process of EMDR. Physiological distress can be eliminated and negative beliefs that block you from accepting and enjoying life can evolve into new understanding.
Katie is trained in Attachment-Focused EMDR through the Parnell Institute. This EMDR model incorporates resource building and highlights connection to internal strength prior to reprocessing memories. It is a collaborative process to decide to use EMDR in therapy. It is important that clients are stable and safe to begin the process. Katie will support clients developing this readiness prior to beginning EMDR.
Katie is passionate about helping parents heal from their own unresolved wounds so that they can be the parents they truly want to be.
