Relationships + couples

Each individual in a relationship has their own set of strengths and experiences. While this is part of what makes partnership so fulfilling, it can also be challenging. Relationship and Couples therapy creates space for increasing awareness of the relationship dynamics and how differences in life experiences impact the partnership and individual reactions. Insight into how these individual differences influence our interactions with our partners provides the opportunity to pause and make distinct choices about how you want to communicate with and respond to your partner. Couples arrive to therapy for a variety of reasons: some arrive in crisis and need to reestablish safety, some arrive during life transitions needing support to stay connected, and some couples arrive to the therapy space for enrichment and deeper connection.

Katie uses research-based therapeutic approaches that can help clients better understand how they show up in their most important relationships, build skills for communication and conflict management, as well as repair and enrich relationships.

Katie has received training and uses the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy in her practice. This includes an individualized in-depth assessment process establishing safety with structured skills building to help reduce negative conflict cycles and increase the ability to see, feel and really know yourself and your partner. Conflict management is improved by reducing maladaptive interactions that include criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and emotional disengagement. Through the couples therapy process, partners can build a deep and fulfilling emotional connection which can create the foundation needed to move forward in connection or navigate the process of healing old wounds.
